03/01   A resident in the 2200 block of Newark Avenue reported a Fraud. The victim stated someone applied for a credit card in his name and also changed his mailing address with the post office. The incident is currently under investigation.

03/01   A resident in the 1100 block of Cushing Road reported a Fraud. Someone attempted to open a credit card in the victim’s name. The incident is currently under investigation.

03/01   At approximately 7:20PM Off. D. Belford and Off. Smolinski were dispatched to the area of Hetfield Road and North Avenue for a heavy smoke condition. Upon their arrival they found a residence in the 900 block of Crestwood Avenue on fire. The officers were able to determine that the house was unoccupied at the time. The Scotch Plains Fire Department responded as well as Fire Departments from Fanwood, Westfield, Berkeley Heights, Mountainside and Clark. The fire was eventually brought under control and members of the Fire department were able to locate the resident’s dog but attempts to resuscitate the animal were unsuccessful. A member of the Clark Fire Department suffered injuries to his shoulder and neck when a ceiling collapsed on him and was then transported to Rahway Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

03/03   A resident of Village Park Court reported the Theft of their blue 2001 Audi S4. The resident parked the vehicle on Front Street and stated it was stolen sometime overnight. The vehicle has been entered stolen and the incident is currently under investigation.

03/03   A resident in the 2200 block of Coles Avenue reported the Theft of his front license plate off of his work van. The NJ license plate has been entered stolen.

03/04   Shortly after midnight Off. Everitt noticed a 2015 White Jeep Cherokee driving aggressively on Route 22 East. Off. Everitt attempted to stop the vehicle which failed to pull over to the side of the road and a motor vehicle pursuit ensued. The vehicle continued travelling eastbound entering Mountainside and eventually Springfield. The pursuit was terminated due to the manner in which the vehicle was being operated and a short time later the vehicle crashed. Arrested at the scene was Zahir Dupiche, age 18 of Newark, N.J. and charged with Second Degree Eluding and Hindering Apprehension. Also arrested was Emrona George, age 18 of Irvington, N.J. who was charged with Hindering Apprehension. Both parties were transported back to headquarters and processed. Off. Everitt was assisted by Off. Serafin and members of Mountainside and Springfield Police Departments.

03/04   Daniel N. Turk, age 56 of Colonia, N.J. was arrested by Off. Tripet and charged with Criminal Mischief during a disturbance at the NY Blood Center located at 2279 South Avenue. Turk was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/05   An employee of the Ashbrook Nursing Home located at 1610 Raritan Road reported the Theft of cash from her purse. The incident is under investigation.

03/05   Melyndasu C. Chang, age 28 of Newark, N.J. was arrested by Off. Tripet on Outstanding Warrants out of Scotch Plains and East Orange, N.J. and processed then released.

03/06   Andre T. Brown, age 25 of Irvington, N.J. was arrested by Off. Sopko on an Outstanding Warrant out of Scotch Plains and processed then released.

03/07   A resident of Mary Beth Court reported a Fraud. Someone gained access to the victim’s bank information and transferred money to another account. The incident is under investigation.

03/09   A resident of Elizabeth Avenue reported the Theft of packages from her front steps. The theft occurred sometime between March 2nd and 3rd.

03/09   Due to storm damage, patrol units were dispatched to Westfield Road on a reported HAZMAT incident. A transformer leaked oil onto the street below. Union County HAZMAT and the Scotch Plains Fire Department responded and the area was closed to traffic until oil could be cleaned up and made safe.

03/10   Robert J. Comeau, age 26, was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence during the course of a motor vehicle investigation conducted by Off. Pereira. Comeau was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/11   Julio C. Mengha-Dongmo, age. 22 of Plainfield, N.J. was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence during a motor vehicle investigation conducted by Off. Everitt. Mengha-Dongmo was transported to headquarters and processed.

03/11   Kaseem Way, age 38 of Irvington, N.J. was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Tampering with Evidence and Hindering Apprehension during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Off. Everitt and Off. Gitto. Way was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/12   Jarrel Daniels, age 27 of Elizabeth, N.J., was arrested on an Outstanding Warrant out of Scotch Plains by Off. Tripet. Daniels was processed and transported to the Union County Jail.

03/13   Cassandra C. Roberson, age. 41 of Orange, N.J., was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Off. Everitt. Roberson was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/13   A resident in the 1500 block of Ramapo Way reported the Theft of their 2015 white BMW 435XI. The theft occurred at approximately 5:30 am. The vehicle was entered stolen and was recovered several days later in Newark, N.J. by Det/Sgt. Joyce and Det. B. Belford. Recovered on Ramapo Way during the initial investigation was a 2002 Silver Subaru which was determined to have been stolen out of Newark, N.J. The incident is under investigation.

03/15   A resident in the 1900 block of Church Street reported a Theft. The victim stated a white male who claimed he worked for the water company requested to check the victim’s water service. After the suspect left the victim noticed items inside the home were missing. Investigation determined the water company did not have any employees working in the area that day and the incident is currently under investigation.

03/18   Kathryn F. Mohan, age 37 of Westfield, N.J. was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct at the Stage House Inn located at 366 Park Avenue by Off. Roggina. Officers were flagged down by a witness stating Mohan was outside the restaurant yelling obscenities. Mohan was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing.

03/18   Carlos J. Aldas-Acosta, age 25 of Plainfield, N.J. was arrested on an Outstanding Warrant out of South Plainfield, N.J. during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Off. VonLangen. Aldas-Acosta was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/18   Otajah S. Jones, age 22 of Plainfield, N.J. was arrested on an Outstanding Warrant out of East Orange, N.J. during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Off. VonLangen. Jones was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/20   The management at Enterprise Rental, located at 2046 Route 22 East, reported the Theft of a tailgate from a 2018 Chevy Silverado. The theft occurred sometime overnight.

03/20   Patrol units responded to 2364 Beryllium Road on a report of a Fire inside of a wall. The Scotch Plains Fire Department responded as well as Union County Haz-Mat unit due to the chemicals inside the building. The fire was extinguished without incident.

03/22   Shamira K. May, age 28 of Piscataway, N.J. was arrested on an Outstanding Warrant out of Scotch Plains by Off. Sopko. May was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/23   A resident in the 1200 block of Woodside Road reported a Theft. The victim saw a white SUV pull up in front of his home occupied by two black males. One of the males exited the vehicle and entered the victim’s vehicle which was parked in the driveway. The suspects fled the area when the victim exited his home. The incident is under investigation.

03/23   Amanda R. Rodriguez, age. 30 of Rahway, N.J. was arrested on an Outstanding Warrant out of Orange, N.J. during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Off. Smolinski. Rodriguez was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/24   Amber Braithwaite, age 24 of Bronx, N.Y. was arrested on an Outstanding Warrant out of Scotch Plains by Off. Mirabile. Braithwaite was processed and released.

03/24   A resident in the 300 block of Montague Avenue reported a Fraud. The victim stated that someone opened an online Home Depot account in his name.

03/24   Anthony N. Lentini, age 25 of Westfield, N.J. was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Off. D. Belford. Lentini was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/25   Kemar R. Purcell, age 38 of Plainfield, N.J. was arrested on an Outstanding Warrant out of Piscataway, N.J. during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Off. D. Belford. Purcell was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/27   A resident on Robin Lane reported the Theft of their 2013 BMW 328 sometime overnight. The vehicle was recovered in Newark, N.J. the next day.

03/28   Aljahir Carson, age 21, of Irvington, N.J. was arrested on an Outstanding Warrant out of Plainfield, N.J. during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Off. Serafin. Carson was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/28   Tynesha C. Brown, age 23, of Plainfield, N.J. was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Off. VonLangen. Brown was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/28   Luis M. Bezares, age 20, of Somerset, N.J. was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Sgt. Pearson. Bezares was then transported to headquarters and processed.

03/31   At approximately 03:10 am Off. D. Belford observed a 2018 Chevy Traverse driving at a high rate of speed in the area of Hetfield Avenue. Off. D. Belford attempted to stop the vehicle which fled, and a motor vehicle pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was terminated on Route 22 East in Mountainside. The vehicle was registered to a resident on White Oak Road and was determined to have been stolen just prior to the pursuit. The vehicle was located in New York City a few hours later. During this investigation officers responded to a neighbor’s house on White Oak Road for a reported car burglary, and both incidents are under investigation.
